The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Foundation was founded in 2002 by J. D. Griffith, Dominick Rizzo and Barbara and Robert Vanyo. Mr. Griffith, whose daughter, Marah's, death from respiratory arrest as a consequence of CMT on Christmas Day 2001, may have been avoided if more information on CMT had been readily available. Although nearly as common as MS, CMT is virtually unknown to the public and is often misdiagnosed by the medical community. Two hundred and fifty times more money was raised for MS last year than CMT.
The CMT Foundation is an all volunteer organization dedicated to working with other CMT organizations to raise awareness, provide information and raise funds under the supervision of our board of directors: J. D. Griffith, Dominick Rizzo, Patrick Torchia, Meghan Stahl, Jeana Sweeney and Barbara Vanyo
